A new design method using topology optimization technology is proposed. In the concept design stage, the result of topology optimization is directly taken in following performance analysis to predict performance-mass relation. Optimum concept model shape for detail design is determined easily by the performance-mass relation. The method was applied to a design of a forged-aluminum suspension member, a 10% mass reduction and about two-third of reduction of detail designing man-days were affirmed comparing to conventional design.
