An impulse response of steel plates was investigated by FEM and was found to be expressed by the equivalent machine element system. Using the system, we introduced the mathematical formulae which describes the hammering response of steel plates. To develop a new thickness measurement technique, we also carried out an impulse load measurement of an hammering to steel plates and found waveform parameteres related to steel plate thickness.
