Abstract
This paper describes a portable instrument and data processing method for the detailed quantification of physical activity. The method includes classification of three-dimensional ambulatory movements (level walking, stair/slope walking, or elevator use) and prediction of walking speed. Furthermore, amount of physical activities of classified behaviors were estimated by using Relative Metabolic Ratio. Experimental results showed that the proposed method feasibly figures out contents of amburatory, and consideration of vertical movements made a significant improvement in the estimation of physical energy consumptions.
