Abstract
There are many challenges in head-to-tape interface problems in helical scan system due to its complex air pressure distribution caused by rotating drum, head mounting windows and head protrusion. In this study, air pressures distribution around the rotating drum was measured using minute differential pressure meters that are composed by semiconductor pressure sensor and extended flexible proboscis. Computational simulation of the pressure and vortex inside and outside of the rotating drum was evaluated also, taking into account the effects of inner head mounting bases, holes and head mounting windows. These results of the study were found to be extremely useful for design a rotating drums in helical scan system.
