Abstract
A simple sensor system for measuring human arm motion, from the shoulder toward the wrist is developed. Just by wearing a sensor unit on the upper arm, the motion of the arm can easily be obtained. The system is composed of 2 kinds of sensors. One is acceleration sensor for measuring elbow position in 3D space, and the other is pressure sensor to measure the contraction of muscles accompanying elbow movement. Methods of measuring upper arm motion and elbow angle are described respectively, and then the developed sensor system is introduced. The performance of the system is estimated by experiments and its effectiveness is verified.
