The shock performance of HDD is of great concern today, and it is important to study the dynamic response of disk, motor-base and top-cover in HDD during shock. In this paper, a full HDD model was built up, and the clamp force and contact on the spindle model was considered. The influence of different shock levels and different shock durations on the dynamic response of disk, motor-base and top-cover was studied. The simulation result showed that the displacement of motor-base is the smallest, and the displacement of disk is the largest, and the displacement of top-cover is smaller than that of disk. The disks will marginally contact with top-cover and motor-base under 400g/lms, and the experiment results showed a very good correlation with the simulation result.
