Abstract
This paper investigates the shock response in drop test simulation of a small form factor disk drive. A finite element model of the hard disk drive is developed in the commercially available finite element package, ANSYS/LSDYNA. The air bearing between the disk and the slider is modeled by nonlinear springs. The contact between the disk and the slider is also considered. The drive is subjected to varying half sine acceleration shock pulses. It is found that an increase in the amplitude of the half sine shock pulse causes an increase of the flying height of the slider.
