Abstract
The reliability and stability of hard disk drives (HDDs) is especially important as the areal recording density increasing rapidly target to 10 Tb/in^2 in the future. The vibrations of the Head Gimbals Assembly (HGA) are inevitable by internal fluid flow and external small shocks during operational process. In this paper, a three-dimensional finite element model of hard disk drive (HDD) is developed. The flow-induced HGA vibrations are investigated by fluid-structure interaction approach. The operational shock responses of HGA due to external shocks are also analyzed. The investigated filling gases in the HDD include air and helium.
