The residual stress within thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) has important influence on the performance of it. A modified theoretical model to extract the non-linear elastic property, residual stress of TBC, and the interaction between them through the measured curvature-temperature plot has been developed. Using this model, the nonlinear relation between the stress and strain of the ceramic coatings can be exhibited clearly. Results show that assumption of constant modulus of the coating may result in large error in the stress calculation.
