The detonation of mixed hydrogen and oxygen gas accumulated in the piping of boiling water reactors causes high pressure, about 20 times higher than initial pressure. We investigated a method for evaluating the strain of piping subjected to internal detonation by using FEM analysis. An experiment of pipe specimens subjected to the internal detonation of H_2-O_2 gas was analyzed by our analysis method. The pressure of the detonation wave was estimated by computational fluid dynamics analysis, and this pressure was loaded on the internal surface of an FEM pipe model. The stress-strain relationship obtained by a high strain rate tensile test was used in an FEM analysis. The analytical results of plastic strain were equivalent to or higher than the experimental results. We concluded that our analytical method conservatively estimates the strain of piping subjected to internal detonation.
