The livestock industry prospered in the southern Kyushu district including Miyazaki prefecture, where is often affected by heat and rainfall in summer. Water condensation occurs in the feed storage tank, which causes deterioration in quality of the feed. The demands on effective countermeasure technologies for summer heat increase. Recently, high reflective paint called heat shielding paint received attention to reduce the temperature rise on the outside of large containers or storage tank, and to maintain the quality of the material stored inside them. On the other hand, coating the tall and large storage tank with heat shielding paint often places the skilled workers of painting in a dangerous situation. Furthermore, saving cost associated with heat shielding painting is the problem from the position of agent. In this study, a new technology of spray painting which enables to secure the safety in height place working and to reduce the cost of heat shielding painting is studied by introducing washing and/or spray painting robot. Development and trial manufacture of drive mechanisms to pull the trigger of water washing and/or spray paint gun, and to propel on the rails laid in the surrounding of the feed storage tank are described. Performing demonstration robot test of water washing the tank, we confirmed the possibility of operating the robot.
