Shaped steel welded structures may be provided with scallops to avoid crossing weld lines. However, when modeling shaped steel with beam elements, structural discontinuity such as scallops cannot be modeled in the Fainant Element Analysis (FEA) model. In this study, FEA using beam elements and solid elements were performed, and their deformation and stresses were compared. From these comparison, much stress concentration does not observed around the scallop, and the FEA modeled with beam elements that did not take this into account was confirmed to be valid for structural analysis of the shaped steel welded structures.
