Abstract
It is necessary to construct a system that helps engineer to decide the tools and cutting conditions for unskilled engineers. We aim to extract rules from catalogs by using data mining to help engineers to decide about cutting conditions. We used variable cluster analysis and the K-means method to find tool shape parameters that had a linear relationship with ball end milling conditions listed in the catalog. We used the response surface method and significant tool shape parameters obtained by clustering to derive ball end milling condition. The aim of our research was to do the experiment and extract new knowledge by applying data mining techniques to the machine tool makers' catalogs.
