Location of support points has a great influence on the vibration characteristics of machine tools in low frequency. A method for increasing the lowest natural frequency of a machine tool is proposed. For the verification of this method, the natural frequency of a machine tool was measured with different numbers of supports. As expected in the model of the stiffness of support, the measurement result shows that the machine has higher lowest natural frequency with greater numbers of supports. In addition, the residual vibration caused by the Z axis feed drive was also reduced at the same time.
