A new CNC Lathe with tandem tables driven by linear motors has been developed to machine the non-axisymmetric curved surface by turning. To realize this machining, the high speed motion is a key factor for the X-axis table. The linear motor is equipped to drive the tables with the acceleration of more than 10G. In this motion, as the inertial force cannot be ignored, the tandem is applied to cancel this inertia force. In this report, the fundamental specification of the developed CNC lathe is introduced and the effects of canceling the inertia force by the tandem tables' motions are evaluated.
