Basic mechanical properties of composite materials depend on not only properties of fiber and resin, but also properties of a fiber / resin interlace. Recently, the interface has been treated as three-dimensional interpriase. That has different characteristic properties from fiber and resin. To improve mechanical properties of composite, it is very important to control properties of the interphase. In addition, the control of interphase enables to design a composite material with an additional function. The interphase with various functions is defined as "affordable interphase" in this study. A flexible resin, which has low modulus and high fracture toughness, was used as the affordable interphase in VE composite. A new method of producing the affordable interphase in the resin cross-linking via free radical was proposed, and the effect on mechanical properties was investigated.
