This investigation deals with the deformation mechanism of a circular metal plate subjected to a uniform shock pressure whose duration is relatively long. The deformation in this case is assumed as two stages. One of them is the deformation produced according to the plastic bending wave propagating from the periphery of the plate to its center, and the other is the bulging deformation of the whole area similar to that generated due to static hydraulic pressure. In this investigation we try to analyze the effect of shock pressure profile on the deformation mechanism using a numerical simulation method which is verified by the experimental result.
