Carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) is potentially applicable to precision structures such as antenna reflectors and mirrors for space telescopes due to its thermal stability and high specific stiffness. CFRP mirrors consist of honeycomb core and thin CFRP skins have both low areal density and dimensional stability, however, honeycomb-shaped dimples was observed on the surface sheet with temperature change. In this study, we fabricated double-core structure sandwiches which have foam layer between skin and honeycomb core in order to prevent from dimple appearing and evaluated its surface accuracy. As the result, inserted foam layer could be effective material in the suppression of the dimple. In addition, we simulated surface deformations of these sandwich panels using finite element analysis.
