The life of automotive transmission gears has come to be greatly affected by the tooth surface pitting fatigue life. So, it is an important issue to predict pitting fatigue life correctly in practical transmission design. In this research, we attempted more correctly prediction of pitting fatigue life by the index including practical tooth surface temperature. It was observed that the index correlated well with pitting fatigue life of automotive transmission gears.
