The present study describes surface modification of aluminum alloy by fine particle peening technique. Various fine particles, steel, zirconia, fused silica and fly-ash were accelerated with pressurized gas and were collided to the target surface with various gas pressure and treatment time. Micro Vickers hardness at loads of 3 and 10mN, surface profile and element distribution were measured with a micro indenter, profile meter and SEM/EDX system, respectively. As results, the significant increase of the hardness value, similar with that of quenched steel with relative smooth profile was obtained by the transfer of the steel particle accelerated with high gas pressure.
