Abstract
Past human machine interfaces have often been inconvenient to operators in nuclear power plants in the sense that they were unpleasant to use. This issue has been created by the gap between designer and user. Taking advantage of the experience of the first author as an operator, several HMI designs are proposed in this paper together with other recommendations for future development. Such an approach would suggest participation of users in future HMI design. All consider comprehension by average operators and cognitive workload in use for diagnosis.
