An equation for leakage from minute crevices at contact surfaces is proposed assuming that the leakage condition is laminar flow and benchmarked by test results. (1) The leakage from contact surfaces can be evaluated by giving the average surface roughness Ra as the equivalent crevice height in the proposed equation. (2) According to te equation leakage rate is proportional to 1/ln (r_o/r_i) where r_o is the outer radius and r_i the inner radius of contact surface. Using this relation a leakage rate of the full-scale system can be estimated from the small-scale test results provided their surface condition is same.
