This study develops an intelligent mark and its recognition system. Robots need information about surroundings or objects in order to move effectively Intelligent marks can give robots information such as object category, relative object position, and so on. Robots get the data of an object by infrared ray communication. They also get relative position data of an object by calculating the difference of reaching time between infrared rays and supersonic waves from the intelligent marks. This study evaluates experimentally the applicable distance range of the intelligent mark and the accuracy of relative position measurements.
