This paper describes heat transfer characteristics of an oscillating heat pipe with check valves, particularly on the operation range. It is found in the experiments that the thermal performance is excellent and the feature of operating limit is drastically different from that of conventional wicked heat pipes. That is, the definite limit of heat load is not observed in the experiments but there exist the operating limit temperature. Over the temperature, oscillating heat pipes can not work even at small heat load, however, so far as the operating temperature is below the limit temperature, very large heat transport capability can be obtained.
