The new simulation results revealed that the conductive heat transfer through the small gaps (1mm in total) between the melt/rod interface and the temperature measuring points causes significant temperature drop which provide with serious error in estimating Marangoni numbers. This conductive temperature drop is the major reason of the discrepancy between the numerical results in preceding years and the experimental results obtained in NASDA. The effect of the finite conductivity of the rods causes additional effect through the non-uniform temperature distributions on the melt/rod interface. This effect is not negligible but yet minor.
