An experimental study has been carried out to investigate ammonia vapor absorption into ammonia-water liquid mixture. Superheated ammonia vapor was allowed to enter a test cell to be absorbed, and the measured pressure drop during absorption was converted to ammonia-absorbed mass. Mass transfer rate was also estimated by means of interface heat flux, which was estimated by applying inverse heat conduction problem solution. Mach-Zehnder Interferometer has been used to visualize the absorption phenomenon. The results of interference-fringe analysis for investigating ammonia diffusion in the solution were presented. The mechanism of the heat generation during absorption were also discussed.
