Abstract
The objectives of this study are to make clear the role of toes during walking, and develop a three-dimensional foot-ankle model containing toe expression, for the purpose of designing AFO (Ankle Foot Orthosis) with training function. Experiments were done to 1) show the importance of toes by comparing the walking with and without AFO, 2) make clear the roles of toes during walking through correlating activity of major muscles for controlling ankle and toes to sole pressure data during walking. By analyzing the results of these two experiments, the necessary components and conditions of the 3D detailed foot-ankle model aiming at the AFO with training effect were elucidated. The model that meets the requirements specification for foot model was built.
