We develop control technology of bioactuators using a gradient generating microfluidic device. We used a stalk of Vorticella as a linear actuator, length of which is proportional to Ca^<2+> concentration. Extension and contraction of Vorticella can be controlled by changing the Ca^<2+> concentration. We fabricated a gradient-generating microfluidic device. The device was characterized with fluorescent dyes. Linear concentration gradient was generated. Vorticella was cultured in the channel. The cells were treated with saponin solution for permeabilization of cell membrane. Calcium gradient was generated in the channel. The stalks contracted in response to the generated concentration.
