Abstract
The electric vehicles have been developed worldwide since some estimates say that fossil fuel reserves will be depleted in the near future. Most of electric vehicle use single motor for obtaining driving force. In generally, large motor that has enough power to propel the electric vehicle cannot rotate faster than gasoline engine. The structure of Multi-Motor drive system is not a new concept, however two or three motors are used for rotating drive shaft in most of applications. In this study, we had proposed two types of Multi-Motor Power Unit which consist of 10 and 16 small DC motors. The one is designed based upon basic principle of multi-motor drive mechanism, we had named it as Low-Speed type Multi-Motor Power Unit. The other one is named as High-Speed type Multi Motor Power Unit. High-Speed type Multi Motor Power Unit is designed as the gear ratio between the DC motors and the output drive shaft is 1:1, therefore it should has enough potential to replace gasoline engines for vehicle.
