Abstract
This research aims to develop a passive suction cup with a plate spring for generating a longer time adhesion. Active suction cups have been widely used for wall climbing, which can stably adhere to a wall and switch easily adhering and detaching. However, the active suction cup consumes much energy to maintain the adhesion. We, therefore, propose a novel passive suction cup with a plate spring to maintain the adhesion force. It is can easily switch attachment and detachment with the use of buckling, but does not need any external energy to maintain dhesion. This paper presents analysis, design, and experiment for the proposed passive suction cup.
