3P1-I11 Investigation of PARO's Therapeutic Effects for Elderly with Dementia in Regional Medical and Welfare Services, and Reduction of Burden of Care of Family Members(Project Summary Report)

Abstract

Seal Robot PARO was integrated into the regional public medical and welfare services. Elderly people who returned from recovery hospital to their homes and who were diagnosed as dementia received PARO to live with at their own home. Interaction with PARO improved their BPSD and reduced burdens of care of their family. This result showed that PARO has potential to prolong elderly people with dementia to keep living at home by care of their family members, and may reduce social cost in medical and welfare services.
