Abstract
In this paper, we explain our efforts to improve the design of 3D location measurement system. Specifically, we describe a new 3D sensor positioner. We developed a prototype of the sensor positioner with a spiral motion driven by a single motor. A special focus of this prototype is how to generate a spiral motion with keeping its orbit at uniform intervals when the positioner rotates. We employed a worm-drive to miniaturize the uniform-orbit rotation mechanism. We verified an improved effectiveness of the proposed mechanism through simulations and experiments.
