This paper presents a short-range indoor wireless communication scheme based on twodimensional communication (2DC) technology. In 2DC systems, a waveguide sheet guides electromagnetic (EM) waves, and communication devices transmit/receive the EM waves across the surface. In the proposed scheme, a whole room floor can be covered with waveguide tiles, which resemble to carpet tiles. To compensate EM wave attenuation at junctions between two tiles, a concept of active tiles, in which amplifiers are embedded into the waveguide tiles, is presented.
