Abstract
This paper addresses design and implementation issues for the directional sensing of electromagnetic waves. To begin, a direction-of-arrival (DoA) detection technique based on the geometric approximation of phase differences is newly modeled. What is the most important aspect from the practical point of view is to realize a DoA-based function suitable for mobile robots. For the purpose, a DoA detection prototype considering the simplicity and generality of hardware configurations is realized and installed on a mobile robot. Experimental results show that the proposed technique and the developed prototype can be considered quite satisfactory for mobile robot navigation in an indoor environment.
