This paper considers a robust active suspension of a car under live load. The aim of this research is to verify the effectiveness of the robust active control from two points of view, namely, vibration control and riding comfort. The enactment of the Railway Technical Research Institute is adopted as a criterion of riding comfort named "Riding comfort level". First, the numerical model of a car called quarter vehicle model is derived. Second, simulations are performed on both the passive and active suspension of a quarter vehicle model by using MATLAB/Simulink. Comparing simulation results under live load, the active suspension is superior to a passive one on vibration control. However, in the active suspension, since about 4 G acceleration acts on a car body, it is necessary to improve riding comfort by reducing acceleration.
