Abstract

The purpose of this study is to enable a communication robot to estimate emotion state of a person based on autonomic nervous activity for human-robot ‘emotional’ interaction. In this paper, a microwave Doppler sensor is used as a non-contact technique to measure heart rate variability related to autonomic nervous activity. The experiment was conducted to confirm whether our proposed method can precisely estimate heart rate variability of subjects during watching different genre of videos or speaking. The results showed that the proposed method can estimate variability of autonomic nervous activity based on the analysis of heartbeat interval (R-R interval) and has a potential to be applicable in human-robot interaction.
