The hands and fingers are critical body parts for performing intellectual activities. Therefore, forearm amputees use different kinds of prosthetic hands depending on their purpose. Nowadays, myoelectric hand, which uses electromyogram (EMG) signals of remaining muscles as control input, is attracting attention due to its visual and function. It is visually nice as the cosmetic hands and functional as the functional hands without having limitations in user's position like the functional hands.
To make the myoelectric hand more convenient, the hand must support more works. By using current motion discrimination method, driving of artificial hand to whole hand set motions such as grasp and open are possible, but users cannot manipulate the fingers freely because the current method cannot discriminate finger motions. Therefore, objective of this study was set to development of a motion discrimination method that supports finger motions.
