Abstract

Microtubule-based molecular shuttles driven by kinesin has been implemented into biosensors. However, upon binding to surfaces of the biosensors, some of kinesins become inactive, which hampers effective material transport. We simulated the translation of microtubule interacting with active and inactive kinesins to reveal the influence of inactive kinesins. We found that the speed of microtubule depended on the ratio between active and inactive kinesins. In order to understand a mechanism of microtubule translation, we investigated elongations of active and inactive kinesins, and found that the mechanisms of microtubule translation were different between middle-high speed regime and slow speed regime. That is, in the middle-high speed regime, stepping of active kinesins determined the microtubule speed; in the low speed regime, dissociation of inactive kinesins determined the microtubule speed.
