Abstract

There is a strong demand for bionic sensors for quantitatively evaluating the skills of doctors for the Bionic Humanoid which is a well-mimicked human-like surgical simulator. In an example, in the Bionic-EyE which is a dedicated eye surgery simulator, technical evaluation of fundus retinal surgery is required. Excessive load on the fundus retina causes retinal diseases and visual field defects. Therefore, we considered integration of the load measurement system to the fundus retina. Since it is used by arbitrary commercially available equipment, a quartz resonator type load sensor with high rigidity and high sensitivity was incorporated into the fundus model. In addition, we succeeded in taking measures to become completely waterproof so that simulated training can be done in the water. For this reason, the world’s first system integration to quantify the fundus load during simulated training of fundus surgery was performed.
