Abstract

Monitoring the catheterized vein is important to reduce the suffering of the hospitalized patient while they receive intravenous therapy. The vessel recognition method is necessary for continuous tracking of a vessel that is catheterized. Vessel recognizing algorithm is built by using reflected infrared signal and multi-frequencies of electrical skin impedance. The infrared signal similarity was used for recognizing the same vessels from two different places. Value of multi-frequency skin impedance was available to show significant differences between vessel area and non-vessel area. Also, the system could show 94.8% of accuracy for recognizing a single vessel. This study confirmed the possibility of vessel recognition by combining two different wearable sensors and further study is required to test in the situation of catheterization in the vein.
