Abstract

A hypocycloid reduction gear is proposed as a refinement of cycloid reduction gear aiming at the improvement of torque transmission. Refinements are as follows. The shape of the groove of output plate is changed from skid epitrochoid to skid hypotrochoid. The outer gear is employed instead of the planetary carrier. The number of transmission pin is increased to 2 from 1. The sun gear is connected to the input shaft and the outer gear works as a stator. The planetary gear has pins that fit in the groove of the output plate. According to the rotation of the planetary gear, the output plate revolves in the same direction with a speed in inverse proportional to the number of the skid hypotrochoid. With these refinements, transmission efficiency is increased up to 80% from 62% with much higher reduction ratio compared to the former cycloid planetary reduction gear.
