Abstract

It is not easy to achieve the same level sewing as human manual work by automatic machine because the target materials for sewing work are soft. Especially, 3D sewing of two different shape parts is one of the difficult tasks for automatic machine sewing. Therefore, we considered some methods for realizing 3D sewing of two different shape parts by a robot arm, then we proposed following some methods. One is a method which we set a guide for part feeding to the sewing machine and the robot arm moves the part along the guide. Another is a method which we prepare a fixture for overlaying and fixing the sewing line of two parts. The effectiveness of these proposed methods was confirmed through experiments. We will continue developing practical methods and systems for realizing this automatic 3D sewing by a robot arm based on the proposed methods in the next phase.
