This study reports the sensitivity characteristics of a waterproof airflow sensor for seabird biologging. The alumina membrane with a nano-hole array is attached to the inlet of the sensor to obtain a waterproof function. Waterproof function increases with decreasing pore size of the nano-holes due to Laplace pressure. Here we confirmed that the sensitivity decrease was due to air leakage from the cantilever-type sensing element. Furthermore, we theoretically and experimentally evaluated the sensitivity was determined by the air mass flow ratio through the membrane and the cantilever element. The flow through the membrane was directly proportional to the membrane area and was affected by the pore size. Thus, we can determine the pore size of the nano-hole that optimizes the water pressure resistance and sensitivity.
