Abstract

We investigate how predictive vibratory-interoceptive stimuli in context with audio-visual contents affect viewers’ emotional experiences. We hypothesized that mechanical vibration to the upper body would stimulate visceral sensations, which would in turn act on interoception sensations and change emotions. In the experiment, the vibration was presented with Predictive scene in horror videos. Predictive scene is a scene that predictively suggests emotional arousal, and is in advance of a jump-scare scene that intentionally surprises the viewer and causes emotional arousal. The effects of predictive vibratory-interoceptive stimuli were discussed in terms of the viewers’ physiological response and subjective ratings.
