Abstract

We experimentally verified the effectiveness of applying virtual light-touch contact to improve walking stability. Virtual light-touch contact is an application of light-touch contact, which aims to reduce postural sway through vibration feedback to the fingertips, rather than physical contact with a fixed point on the fingers. In this experiment, we used a wearable device to reproduce the virtual light-touch contact. The results of the experiment showed that similar to the light-touch contact, there were parameters indicating a significant improvement in walking stability with the virtual light-touch contact. This suggests that there is potential for improving walking stability with virtual light-touch contact.
