In this study, coupled fluid-structure analysis was performed for actual flight, figure-0, figure-8, and three cases of hovering flight, with the aim of elucidating the effect of the motion trajectory of the wingtip by a rigid flat-plate wing on aerodynamic forces. Based on an actual hummingbird, the wings were modeled in 3D CAD and flight simulations were conducted. The peak position of lift was different for all analysis cases. Furthermore, when the leading edge of the wing was inclined in the direction of flapping motion, the generation of lift was greater when the wingtip trajectory followed a valley shape and less lift was generated when the trajectory followed a mountain shape. As a result, the highest average lift in Case 1 was 4.29 gf, which corresponded to 74.0% of the wing's own weight.
