We compared base running performance with two different running line (course) to 3rd base in baseball 17 university baseball plyers (men, 20.5 ± 1.1 years old). One line was normal baseball running with round to 1 st, 2nd, and 3rd bases and the other was straight line to 1st base, comparably bigger round from 1st to 2nd base, and straight line from 2nd to 3rd base; u-shape. We named the former line as normal line and later as Nishikawa line. The time to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd base from home base was measured by infrared sensor (1000 Hz) in home base and touch sensors (1000 Hz) layed under the bases. The distance of running course was measured by kinematic GNSS (10 Hz) which was mounted subject’s helmet. Each subjects tried base running with maximal speed 2 times for both line with other enough rest between trials after the 2 times of practices with in previous days. Furthermore, all subjects tried 80 m straight running time which was measured by stop watch with 2 persons and averaged time of 2 persons was used for running performance. As the results, the time to 1 st and 3rd base from home base of normal lie was not statistically different with Nishikawa line. The time of normal line from 1st to 2nd base was significantly faster than Nishikawa line. The distance from home base to 1st base was not different between lines. However, the distance from 1st base to2nd base of normal line was significantly shorter and the distance from 2nd to 3rd base was longer in normal line. Significant correlations between Nishikawa line and 80 m (r = 0.75) and normal line and 80 m (r = 0.91) were found. Further significant difference was found in group average of 80 m running time of Nishikawa line faster (11.75 ± 0.30 sec.) and group average time of normal line faster. From the results of our study, it was suggested that Nishikawa line might not be superior compared to normal line, but might be advantageous for slower straight running performer in baseball.
