Since Japanese-style bow has a very complicated shape and structure, it demands torques applied on the grip handle for inclination and rotation of bow, in addition to force for pushing the bow, to hit the target. The purpose of this study was to quantify TENOUCHI in Playing Kyudo. First we developed an instrumented bow consisting of four sensors for measurement of bending moments and two sensors for measurement of torsional moments, secondly, invented a device to calibrate the instrumented bow under various load conditions. Output-voltages of the sensors were collected for 19subjects in shooting arrows. The quantification of TENOUCHI was realized from calculation of variables, such as, force exerted on the grip handle; moment for inclination of the bow; and torsional torque for rotation of the bow. As a result of analysis, high repeatability of TENOUCHI was observed in high score subjects in the hitting target. The instrumented bow enabled us to measure operation of TENOUCHI.
