Photoacoustic(PA) imaging of the simulated subsurface defect has been demonstrated. Subsurface defect is fabricated accurately on aluminum plate with end mill. The defect depth range from 0.8 to 1.2mm with an increment of 0.2mm. The diameter of the defect is 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0mm. The PA images processed by a computer for subsurface defect were shown with color graphics. The PA image obtained clearly showed the location and the size of the subsurface defect. The photoacoustic method is useful for detection of the subsurface defect.
