This study developed a method of evaluating drivers' awareness using Situation Awareness (SA) when driving a vehicle equipped with a low-speed adaptive cruise control system (low-speed ACC). Some experiments using JARI-Driving Simulator were conducted to find out the relationship between SA and drivers' behavior, and to develop indexes which indicate drivers' SA level. The simulator tests showed that a) the use of the system gave a significant effect on the SA for recognizing the movement of other vehicles, whereas b) the participants who are not familiar with the system yielded lower SA level for identifying the current status of the activating system.
